Rosh Hashanah — Day One: Shabbos
Day 1 — Pesicha
A segulah for an easy and painless birth. There is a custom, with mystical basis, for a husband to endeavor to receive Pesicha. The honor includes closing the doors of the Aron after the Sefer Torah is removed. The Rebbe advised this segulah to certain individuals.
Day 1 — Kohen / First Aliyah
May be purchased by a Kohen or on behalf of a Kohen. This Aliyah describes how Sarah conceived and gave birth to Yitzchak, and how he was circumcised at eight days old.
Day 1 — Levi / Second Aliyah
May be purchased by a Levi or on behalf of a Levi. This Aliyah describes Sarah’s joy at the birth of Yitzchak and the great feast Avraham made on the day he was weaned.
Day 1 — Shlishi / Third Aliyah
Sarah sees Yishmael mocking and asks Avraham to send Hagar and her son away; Hashem tells Avraham to listen to Sarah, for through Yitzchak his descendants will be counted.
Day 1 — Revi’i / Fourth Aliyah
This Aliyah describes how Avraham fulfilled the command to send away Hagar and Yishmael, and how Hashem heard the boy’s cry when their water ran out in the wilderness.
Day 1 — Chamishi / Fifth Aliyah
An angel shows Hagar a well of water; Yishmael grows up in the wilderness and becomes an archer.
Day 1 — Shishi / Sixth Aliyah
Avraham tells Avimelech that his servants had seized his well, and Avimelech makes a peace treaty with Avraham, committing to deal faithfully with him and his descendants.
Day 1 — Shevi’i / Seventh Aliyah
Avraham sets aside seven ewes as testimony that he dug the well, names the place Be’er Sheva, plants an eshel there, and calls in the name of Hashem.
Day 1 — Hagbah
When raising the Torah, one “raises with it all the previous Aliyot” and receives reward for all the Aliyot together (Shulchan Aruch).
Day 1 — Gelilah
Hakol holeich achar hachitum — “Everything goes according to the conclusion.” Children may participate in this honor. As with Hagbah, this honor carries a measure of the reward of the preceding Aliyot.
Day 1 — Maftir
The Haftorah, from Shmuel I, tells how Hashem blessed Chana with a son, the prophet Shmuel.
Day 1 — Hagbah, 2nd Torah
Raising of the second Sefer Torah, from which Maftir is read. When raising the Torah, one “raises with it all the previous Aliyot” and receives reward for all the Aliyot together (Shulchan Aruch).
Day 1 — Gelilah, 2nd Torah
Hakol holeich achar hachitum — “Everything goes according to the conclusion.” Children may participate in this honor. As with Hagbah, this honor carries a measure of the reward of the preceding Aliyot.

Day 2 — Levi / Second Aliyah
May be purchased by a Levi or on behalf of a Levi. This Aliyah describes how Avraham prepared Yitzchak for the Akeidah, until an angel stopped him at the final moment.
Day 2 — Shlishi / Third Aliyah
This Aliyah contains additional blessings for Avraham and Yitzchak in recognition of their devotion and sacrifice.
Day 2 — Revi’i / Fourth Aliyah
Avimelech makes a peace treaty with Avraham, committing to deal faithfully with him and his descendants.
Day 2 — Chamishi / Fifth Aliyah
This Aliyah mentions the birth of our matriarch Rivkah.
Day 2 — Maftir
The Haftorah, from Yirmiyahu, describes Hashem’s great love for the Jewish people and His promise to Rachel that her children will return from exile.
Day 2 — Hagbah
The person receiving Hagbah holds the Torah during the Shofar blowing. When raising the Torah, one “raises with it all the previous Aliyot” and receives reward for all the Aliyot together (Shulchan Aruch).
Day 2 — Gelilah
